Day 2 - Arusha / Serengeti
We start our day early, after a wonderful breakfast, and a
pre-departure orientation, we set off for the Serengeti in a
charted flight. After landing in the Serengeti, get your
cameras ready as we embark on an adventurous game drive. We
will go to our base camp for lunch. After lunch we will
discuss some photo techniques and ideas that will help you
take better pictures while out on safari. An afternoon game
drive will give us a preview of the million plus wildebeests
and zebras of the migration. We spend the next few nights in
exclusive private tented bush camps in the Serengeti. Our
camps are Mobile Luxury Tented camps. Each spacious tent has
en suite bathroom facilities. The camps are intimately
integrated in the surrounding African bush. It offers guests
the perfect balance between comfort, privacy and tranquil
isolation.
One of the oldest ecosystems on earth is the Serengeti. The
necessary elements of climate, vegetation and fauna have
almost remained the same over the past million years. It’s
the “Great Migration” for which Serengeti is most popular.
Over a million wildebeest and about 250,000 zebras flow
south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the
short rains every October and November, and then circulate
west and north after the long rains in April, May and June.
The ancient instinct to move is so powerful that no drought,
gorge or crocodile infested rivers can keep them back. Words
alone don’t do the Serengeti justice. It is a place of pure
beauty and raw nature. For a photographer there just aren’t
other places that can eclipse the opportunities this
majestic place offers. We will spend very full days
photographing in this wonderful ecosystem.
Our Private Luxury Tented camps have different strategic
locations throughout the year in order to be near areas with
higher animal concentrations. We will be camping in two
different areas of the Serengeti.
Day 3-5 Serengeti
Serengeti wildlife and landscape photography will be
plentiful these days. Venture on morning and afternoon game
drives or take an optional hot-air balloon safari to view
the Serengeti plains from above. If you have opted for the
optional balloon safari you will follow it with a champagne
breakfast. After your breakfast you will be reunited with
the rest of the group for a continuation of your
photographic adventure.
Overnight: Private Luxury Tented Camp
Day 6 - Serengeti / Olduvai / Ngorongoro
Today we will depart for the Olduvai Gorge en route to the
Ngorongoro Crater. Olduvai Gorge is commonly referred to as
“The Cradle of Mankind” where on expeditions in the early
1960’s , Louis and Mary Leakey discovered “Homo Habilis”,
regarded as one of the earliest members of the human genus.
After a brief presentation we will have access to a small
but informative Olduvai museum.
Later this day we will have the opportunity to visit the
Masai at one of their local Bomas(village). We will be able
to see and experience the way they live, work, and
celebrate. Perhaps be invited into a Masai Inkajijik
(house). Photo opportunities will abound with these
wonderful people.
Our luxury lodge for the next two nights will be on top of
the crater rim, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the
crater, while sipping sundowners next to a warm fireplace.
Day 7-8 - Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the greatest natural spectacles
of the world. It’s caldera is a stunning 12 miles across and
covers over 150 square miles of majestical flora and fauna.
This is home to some of the few remaining black rhinos found
in east Africa. Four out of the ”Big five” mammals can
easily be seen in the crater on any given day. Animals are
in abundance in the crater year round due to plentiful water
and food. Encounter some of the biggest bull elephants found
anywhere. But don’t just be on the lookout for lions and
hyenas, as cheetahs, serval cats and many other predatory
mammals roam throughout the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is
truly an African eden, we will descend 2000 feet into this
caldera where more than 25,000 animals graze and hunt. We
will set out on a search for elephants, black rhinos,
buffalo, cheetahs, lions, hyenas, hippos, wildebeests and
many more of East Africa’s superb wildlife. We will enjoy
picnic lunches while out in the crater.
Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Crater Lodge
Day 9 - Ngorongoro Highlands / Tarangire
After breakfast, and a pre-departure orientation, we set off
for Tarangire National Park. This is a park that during the
dry season, experiences vast herds of elephants. Some
elephant herds are composed of almost 300 members. Since the
Tarangire river runs through the park many animals stay near
thus providing a buffet for predators. Tarangire is has one
of the highest concentrations of wildlife outside of the
Serengeti ecosystem. It’s also one of the few places where
the fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk are
regularly observed. But keep a lookout for the Kori Bustard,
the heaviest flying bird; and for the ground hornbills.
Overnight: Maramboi Luxury Permanent Tented camp
Day 10 Tarangire / Arusha
Today we will be departing from Maramboi Camp back to
Arusha. We will have the opportunity to do some shopping and
sightseeing along the way. Once we arrive at Arusha we will
be given a day room to relax, shower and rest before our
departure back home. Later in the day on to your home
country or take your safari extension on to Zanzibar.
Day Room: Olasiti
August 11
